Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago died at the age of 71. In 2014, it was reported that the former senator has stage 4 lung cancer. Despite the illness, Senator Miriam remained strong and continued her work in the senate. She also ran for presidency in the 2016 national elections with Senator Bong Bong Marcos as her Vice President.

After the election, Senator Miriam left the senate to focus more on her health and recovery from her illness.

Other than her contribution in the senate and in the country, the former senator became known for her comical sides through her witty pick-up lines. She’s also an author of the bestselling book “Stupid is Forever”.
