Dubbed as the “Queen of the Philippine Horror Films” because of the innumerable horror films and awards she have won throughout the previous decades after her first ever appearance on the Shake, Rattle, and Roll 3 in 1991 where she played the role of an eerie nursemaid of Kris Aquino, Lilia Cuntapay—who is now 81 years old—asks for help from her co-stars and directors on the industry to aid her from her illness especially on the financial help to pay her hospital bills.

Lilia Cuntapay is known to have played, besides the nursemaid on Shake, Rattle, and Roll, various spine-tingling characters such as a mangkukulam (witch), albularyo (witchdoctor), multo (ghost), and the most famous and well-known out of all the roles she have played was the aswang. And because of all the horror film characters she had portrayed, she has been dubbed as the Queen of PH horror films—a title she truly deserved. In 2011, she had won the Best Actress award from Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival on the mockumentary “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay” about the life of being a film extra.

Now, on the advent of her suffering due to her illness, Lilia asks for financial assistance to the stars in the business to which she had or even had not worked with, as well as the directors in the industry.

Lilia, who has been shown on a video that went viral on Facebook, was seen to be in great misery because she had no funds to pay for her hospital bills and that she can hardly walk and talk because of the complication she had acquired on her spinal cord that had allegedly started on July 5. The woman can be seen to have difficulty in pronouncing and uttering words that her voice can be heard shaking and stuttering which can be said the the Horror Queen is going through a lot of trouble and pain right now.

The video was uploaded on YouTube on Lilia’s account where she addressed her co-stars and people in the showbiz industry: “Kung nakikinig man ang mga concerned citizens, director co-workers, wala na ako sa showbiz dahil may sakit ako. Kung mahal nyo pa ko, any help will be appreciated.” That even though she can hardly talk, it feels like the pain does not end only into the physical aspect, but of both the thought of being forgotten and being shadowed by the light where she used to dance—in show business and film industry.

She also took the time to thank the people who had helped her morally and financially. Lilia is now located and under the care of her child in Pinili, Ilocos Norte.
